What’s it all about?

Religion, sex and kink… they seem like unlikely bedfellows, right?  Not topics which often go hand in hand(cuff).  So why do we discuss them together?  As you might gather from listening to the podcast, we both experienced a lot of shame from the church and from Christians surrounding our sexual expression.  A lot of religious teaching seems to centre on “don’t” when it comes to sex, or at the very least, “only within these narrow boundaries.”  Yet sex is about the most natural and wonderful thing we can think of.

Our point of view is that sex and exploration is a healthy, good thing.  It can be misused, of course, but in itself it is not bad, wrong, shameful or dirty.  You are not a freak if you like being tied up; you’re not an abomination if you’re attracted to the same sex.  Nor are you a piece of chewed up gum if you slept with someone other than your husband.  So long as you are not harming anyone, there is nothing wrong with exploring your sexuality and finding out what brings you pleasure.  Your enjoyment is your business.

That seems like a weird justification for hosting a podcast.  If it’s your business, why are we talking about it?  The reality is, many people feel like we did, alone, afraid and ashamed.  This place is for you.  Our goal is simply to open up the conversation and, by sharing our experiences, help people who are coming to terms with their sexuality and orientation, or adjusting to sex after religion. We’d love to hear your stories, comments and suggestions. Hit us up on the contact page or through our Twitter account @LivingInSinPod. We look forward to you joining the conversation!
